Things I’ve Learned in Kuwait!

Well I have been in Kuwait for under a week and with each new adventure I am learning lots of new things. So as my love of list writing grows here is a very random list of the big, little and everyday life and school things that makes living in Kuwait so very interesting.

So far a few of the

Things I’ve Learned While Living in Kuwait!

  1. That the IT Department at this school is amazing. I am looking forward to all the technical professional development. As well I’ve also learned that it does bring a little joy to your heart to hear that the head of IT is also a MAC user.
  2. That having a housekeeper in the desert is a wonderful gift! The amount of sand on my shoes alone is enough to create a Kindergarten sandbox. Like we do with Canadian winter I think I may need to start leaving my shoes outside my front door or have a pair of shoes that are my sand shoes, just like winter boots!
  3. That one should really double check you pack the right camera cable. Finding a Nikon camera cable isn’t as easy as I first thought. No worries I am sure I will sort one out soon and be able to add photos.
  4. That in Kuwait there is delivery service for everything. People often don’t like to go outside because of the heat so you can get just about anything brought right to your door. If you didn’t want to walk to the corner store you could actually just call them and they would bring it to you!
  5. That when someone else is dealing with the lizard you found in your classroom you really don’t care what they do with it!
  6. I’ve learned what my name looks like in Arabic writing and that you can have it made out of silver and put on a necklace.
  7. That taking a small coach bus to and from school works well and when not in Ramadan will give me plenty of time to drink my morning coffee. One does have to be a little carefully who you site beside on the bus because listening to someone complain for 25 minutes straight does make you wish you brought your Ipod.
  8. That if it is dry heat or not it is still hot!
  9. That when a bus tire repeatedly makes a clunking sound it is really best to get a whole new bus.
  10. That no matter what school you work in there is a Laminator Queen to help you!
  11. That putting up speed camera on a major highway, never moving them and also posting signs letting people now the camera is there creates an interesting speed racing effect.
  12. That Christian churches can be found in the Middle East you just need to be pointed in the right direction.
  13. That even in a supposed “dry” country creative people can find a way to make it very, very wet!
  14. That I am looking forward to all the other things I have yet to learn!

Thanks for everyone who has been commenting on my blog. I love the fact you are all coming along on this adventure with me. My blog is set-up to avoid spam or unwanted comments that the comments come to me for approval first and then I check a little box so they get posted. So if you don’t see your comment right way don’t worry it will be added soon!

To all my Canadian friends who start teaching school on Monday I wish you luck and lovely students. I will be thinking of you!

Hope where ever you are you too are learning interesting things today!
